While winning auctions is far from an exact science, here are four tips we've learned to ensure you're always in the running for a big purchase. Forza Horizon 5 doesn't change the basic structure, and there's still a huge amount of stuff dotting the Mexican map.

But it does do a better job of easing you into its mountain of content. You're able to choose which specific types of events to unlock as you progress, so, for example, I preferred to focus on closed-track road races early on before delving into cross-country rallies. In turn, that makes me feel better about simply driving around the landscape in search of whatever esoteric quest I might come across. Unlike with 4, I've never felt like I'm wasting my time in Forza Horizon 5, as I always have more of a sense of what I could be working toward. Whether you're a novice like me or someone more experienced with racing games, you'll find a ton to keep you busy.

I gravitated towards road racing events, but there's a huge variety of different courses. Others might prefer going off-road, trying drag racing or competing in events to rack up trick points. Developer Playground Games has outlined the details of its Forza Horizon 5 loyalty rewards program, which grants players free cars for the upcoming racing game if they've played previous titles in the series. However, it isn't just the scenic views that make for a good reason to use Photo Mode. Photo mode also has its own tracking system, which rewards you for snapping up more pics of cars.

It costs 2,000,000 credits but unlocking it means that travelling around the map to complete smaller challenges becomes a breeze.

Also, due to the massive size of the game's map, if you've only got a small amount of time on your hands, this is perfect for the player who just wants to get in, do a race, then get out, without having to commute. The stream is a lot of fun to watch, and everyone involved seems pretty passionate about the new options that are being added. It will be interesting to see how players embrace the vehicles over the coming weeks, and how often we end up seeing them driving around Forza Horizon 5's take on Mexico. However, it's not always extremely clear when you've unlocked something, or if you're really close to a goal you can work towards. If you love racing games, but your eyes begin to glaze over the second the tuning menu pops up, you're not alone.

The options seem endless, and while it's great for players that love that sort of thing, if you've not got a degree in car alchemy, it can be overwhelming. Regardless of how you like to play, it's also a beautiful game; I was stunned by the variety of scenery across this little corner of Mexico I got to explore. Coupling that with events taking place at all different types of day and in different weather conditions and there's always something new to see. I've only played it on the Xbox Series S on a 1080p TV — I'm hoping I can give it a go on a Series X or well-tuned gaming PC soon and see just how good it can look with the right hardware. But even on my more modest setup, I'm enjoying this game in a way I never expected.

Some settings to be aware of are setting the resolution to 1024x768 and setting the frame rate to 20fps. The game will look and play terribly with these options set this way, but it might theoretically help auction menus load fast enough for you to have an edge over some players who are loading in high-res assets. Unfortunately, you don't have control over these settings on Xbox, but you can change the graphics mode to "performance" if you're looking for a similar theoretical benefit. Maybe online but if you switch over to solo there's like 10 times as many vehicles.

I would just switch over to online with less traffic to make things easier but my setup doesn't agree with bandwidth every time I go online after about 10 minutes I get kicked off but if I play solo no issues. The previous game in the series, Forza Horizon 4, was personally appealing to me because of its UK setting, which I found to be a convincing rendering of where I grew up. But I found the game hard to get into because of the way it handled its open-world design, throwing an overwhelming array of cars and quests at you. Every time I opened the game after a week or two away, I'd have no idea what to do — the overwrought UI gave me option paralysis. It felt more like Assassin's Creed on wheels than an arcade racer. This time the popular game franchise is set in Mexico, boasting the biggest map yet as well as some of the most spectacular scenery we've seen from any Forza game.

This isn't a new feature in the series, but it was absent in Forza Horizon 4, so many players will be pleased to hear its made a return for the Horizon Mexico festival. Credits aren't particularly hard to come by, but as you set your eyes on homes with two million credit price tags, you might need to save up a little. Lucky wheelspins and completing races are great ways to wrack up cash, however, an often forgotten method is selling off your unwanted cars. To gain access to these loyalty rewards, you'll need to complete the first initial drive in Forza Horizon 5 for the new unlocked cars to appear in your garage.

It's worth noting that the unlocked cars won't feature any special upgrades, so you'll need to cough up some extra virtual money if you want to pimp your ride. When you're setting bid and buyout prices on your Auction House listing, not all sellers are created equal. To be exact about it, players who've achieved Legendary status by progressing through the painter or tuner levels right up to 20 can list vehicles with a higher minimum bid and buyout range than other players. Forza Horizon 5 offers you three starter cars that each serve a specific purpose or suit a certain driving style. This would, in regular circumstances, leave players with a conundrum – do you pick the most stylish car, or the one built for off-roading on rough terrain, or the one that's best in the corners?
